Passion Nurturing Activities

Great discussion, all, on nurturing passion. Here are some other things you can do to rejuvenate that creative, passion-filled part of your spirit:

1. Surround yourself with friends who encourage your passion. Remember, "a wise king is surrounded by wise counselors." Share your passion, what you think God's planted inside you, with those who love you, with those with whom you’re safe. With those who keep you accountable. Seek their guidance. And listen to them!

2. Disconnect from technology. Okay, don't hyperventilate. But think about it. We have to be the most connected, available, interruptable people ever! Give yourself a break--literally. Shut off the phone, the computer, and anything else with an on/off switch. Focus on the silence. And what God has to tell you in the midst of it.

3. Regain Perspective. Remember, it's not about you. Sure, it feels like it is, but it's really not. It's about what God wants to accomplish. So step away from yourself. Got mountains close by? The ocean? Anything bigger than you? Look at it. Let the sight of something truly huge and majestic remind you of your place in the world. Then look to Scripture. And let that remind you of your place in God's economy.

Okay, that's enough for today. More to come soon!

Love it. And a nice reminder of perspective. You said it so well I don't think there's anything else for me to say here. ;-)

Some days my creative passion is on life support. Other days, I call on the "911" of unplugging my brain from the computer, reading, and watching a funny movie. When I'm weeding my garden, and I don't mean metaphorically, ideas start wiggling out of whatever cave they'd been hiding in. Which goes to prove God has a sense of humor because he's found a way for me to actually want to get stung by bees, bitten by ants, and scratched by holly bushes.

Here's something that's helped lately--a feeble-kneed return to the practice of fasting.

Not in a 'Feeling extra holy this week, let's make with the sackcloth and ashes' but in a 'Too many voices, Dear God! I'm totally bankrupt' kind'a way :)

(She typed as she juggled an ice cream sandwich betwixt her teeth. . . )

Connie--LOL! Take it that wasn't a fasting day...

I'm reading more and more about the health benefits of fasting one day, but you make a great point about the spiritual benefits. Focusing on God every time the hung pangs hit...now that's motivation!

Seriously, sounds like a good idea.

Ah, you hit it. My motto has become: it's not about me; it's about God.

God's been working on me for the last few years to relinquish my pride and serve Him with a humble heart. My fingers have a hard time letting go some days!
